Ruis Dair Safe Haven - Fostering

We currently provide a foster home for dogs for Bullies in Need and we foster cats for the Cat Rescue Network.

Previously we were fostering dogs from Friends of Abandoned Pets and fostering cats for the Ottawa Humane Society; here are some pictures of the temporary family members that stayed with us.

There are adverts on these fostering pages, this may be annoying to you and I apologise if it is. But sadly it is a necessary evil to help us deal with the ever increasing costs. Things like food, litter, toys, treats all have to come from somewhere. We are also trying to save enough to be able to create a large pen in the back yard to allow the foster dogs to have some off leash play time.

So if you would like to support us you could consider following one of the links and maybe doing some shopping. Or you could follow one of the links to join for FREE! .

I only recommend books that I own and have found useful. Just click on the appropriate flag to take you to the Amazon store that you prefer. Sorry, but at the moment I am only set up for the Canadian, American and English sites.

A Poem

There I sat, alone and afraid,
You got a call and came right to my aid.
You bundled me up with blankets and love.
And, when I needed it most, you gave me a hug.

I learned that the world was not all that scary and cold.
That sometimes there is someone to have and to hold.
You taught me what love is, you helped me to mend.
You loved me and healed me and became my first friend.

And just when I thought you'd done all you could do,
There came along not one new lesson, but two.
First you said, "Sweetheart, you're ready to go.
I've done all I can, and you've learned all I know."

Then you bundled me up with a blanket and a kiss.
Along came a new family, they even have kids!
They took me to their home, forever to stay.
At first I thought you sent me away.

Then that second lesson became perfectly clear.
No matter how far, you will always be near.
And so, Foster Mom, you know I've moved on.
I have a new home, with toys and a lawn.

But I'll never forget what I learned that first day.
You never really give your fosters away.
You gave me these thoughts to remember you by.

We may never meet again, and now I know why.
You'll remember I lived with you for a time.
I may not be yours, but you'll always be mine.

I did not write this, and I don't know who did. If you are, or know who the original author or copyright holder is please get in touch.

Ottawa Canada & US UK

This is by no means a complete list, but simply some of the groups that I am familiar with or aware of. If you would like your group listed please get in touch. I am afraid that the list is only for the Canada, US & UK. As I have no knowledge or experience with any groups elsewhere.

If you are looking for a new family member of the four-legged, furry variety please adopt. There are so many cats and dogs, including purebreds, in shelters through no fault of their own.

Here are some quick links, at the bottom of the page is a more comprehensive list
